Woodside Man Charged With Murder in Fatal Stabbing of 78-Year-Old Mother

A Woodside man has been charged with murder for stabbing his 78-year-old mother to death last Friday.

David Galicia, 48, allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and fatally slashed his elderly mother in the head whom he lived with. The incident took place at around 7 a.m. the morning of April 24.

Police officers who arrived at the scene found a trail of blood from the entrance of Galicia’s apartment building on 41st Avenue to the unit where he and his mother lived, according to the charges. His mother, Carmelita Cabansag, was ruled dead on the scene.

The officers found her lifeless body on the kitchen floor with a bloody meat cleaver beside her. Her body and head had numerous puncture wounds, the charges state.

Police also found Galicia with a number of self-inflicted injuries on the scene. Galicia was taken to an area hospital where he allegedly told officers that he stabbed his mother with a butcher knife — but didn’t know why he did it.

“This was an alleged act of matricide with blood splattered on the walls and pooling on the floors in the living room and kitchen,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said. “The 78-year-old victim – her body found lifeless on the floor and slumped against a kitchen cabinet – was allegedly killed by her own son.”

Galicia was arraigned while in hospital on charges of murder in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in fourth degree. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

The truth hurts .

This is why NY needs the death penalty. Someone like this does not to be rehabilitated. He is a danger to society. The defense attorney will use the insanity excuse , no justice for the victim.
