Residents who are fed up with noisy planes that soar above their homes will be able to voice their opposition at a town hall meeting next month.

Several local officials are hosting a town hall meeting regarding plane noise that stems from La Guardia Airport on Sunday, October 18th, at 3 pm, in P.S. 69’s Auditorium, located at 77-02 37th Ave.

State Senator Jose Peralta has teamed up with several other local officials to put the town hall together after receiving complaints about air plane noise from Jackson Heights residents over the past few months.

“This is an issue that must be addressed quickly, and hopefully all those involved can come up with a solution to reduce noise while maintaining a high quality service for passengers at LaGuardia,” Peralta said.

Peralta added that this is a Federal and not a State issue.

However, he added, “We take all complaints that affect our constituents’ quality of life seriously.”

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey will be attending, according to Peralta’s office.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been invited but has not yet confirmed.

Airplane noise has become an issue in Jackson Heights. There have been numerous posts regarding the noise on Jackson Heights Life, a neighborhood forum, including one topic that has 19 pages worth of posts.

One poster, emliv85, called the noise unbearable, stating that planes, “simply fly too low and are too loud – it’s frightening.”

Another user, HamJacksonHeights, posted on September 20th, “They [planes] were blaring this morning around 6 to 7:30 am, one after another.”

Numerous users posted that the planes wake them up.

Congressman Joseph Crowley, Assemblyman Michael DenDekker, Assemblyman Francisco Moya and Councilman Daniel Dromm all helped Peralta organize the event and are scheduled to attend.
