The second annual Corona Mile is set to take place in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park this Saturday.

The event, organized by Queens Distance Runners, kicks off at 7:55 a.m. and consists of four heats.

There will be a Men’s Heat, Women’s Heat, an Elite Heat (dedicated to the fastest men & women) and a heat for community leaders/kids. The fourth heat is dubbed the “Queens Community Champions and Kids of Queens” which commemorates community leaders and advocates of Corona and beyond.

To qualify for the Elite Heat, male participants must have run a previous mile event in under 4 minutes 45 seconds and female participants must have run a sub 5 minute 30 second mile.

State Senator Jessica Ramos confirmed she will be running along with other partcipants in the Queens Community Champions heat.

“We’re very pleased to have a Mile race that features the local elite milers of the NYC Running Community perform on our side of town,” said Kevin Montalvo, President of Queens Distance Runners.

“This course in particular gives runners several chances to watch the Elites get to work and support the Community Champions and the Kids of Queens following their own heats. Unlike many sporting events, the Corona Mile showcases our Elite Athletes up front and center to our next generation.”

Last year’s winners, Jen Dagan of Elitefeats and Alex Hoyt of the North Brooklyn Runners, are racing again and plan to defend their titles.

“I’m always down for a challenge. I’m ready to race!” said Dagan on her reappearance this year.

The event kicks off with the women’s heat at 7:55 a.m., followed by the men’s heat at 8:15 a.m., the elite heat at 8:35 a.m., and the Queens Community Champions and Kids of Queens heat at 8:45 a.m.

Bib pickup will be held at the Queens Unisphere beginning at 7 a.m.

The event is USA Track & Field (USATF) certified.

Registration costs $25 (kids 12 and under can register for free) and closes this Friday.

Police from the 112th Precinct in Forest Hills and Transit District 20 are looking for a man, who is built like an NFL player, for allegedly groping a 50-year-old woman as she waited for the subway near the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst on Monday morning.

The victim was standing on the southbound M/R platform at the 59th Avenue subway station on the Queens Boulevard line when a stranger approached her and touched her left buttocks, police said. The brute fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The woman was not injured during the incident.
