‘Summer Sundays’ Concert Series to Return to Travers Park This Weekend

A concert from a previous Summer Sundays in the Park series (Jackson Heights Beautification Group)

June 28, 2021 By Allie Griffin

A free summer concert series is returning to Jackson Heights this weekend after going remote last year.

“Summer Sundays in The Park” will again feature live music from local artists on Sundays at 6 p.m. in Travers Park, from July 4 through Aug. 29.

The series — organized by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group — is bringing back in-person concerts for its 17th year after COVID-19 restrictions forced the performances to go online last year.

The 2021 concert season kicks off on Independence Day with the Patriot Brass Ensemble, a fan-favorite brass quintet and drums band.

Future performers include The JMQ, a five-piece rock band with horns, on July 18 and Sonica, a cutting-edge female vocal trio featuring Grammy-nominated artists, on Aug. 22.

Concerts are held in the shaded tennis court and the performance area on 78th Street in Travers Park.

The series — which was started by the Jackson Heights Beautification Group in 2004 — is made possible in part by the Queen Council on the Arts with public funds from the city’s Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.

More information on Summer Sundays in The Park can be found online or by calling the Jackson Heights Beautification Group at 347-766-9129.
