A state-of-the art movie theater that features a 4DX auditorium opens in Flushing Friday.

The theater, operated by Regal, fills a void since RKO Keith Theater—a historic Flushing cinema– closed in 1986. The Downtown Flushing neighborhood has been without a theater since its closure.

Regal, which inked a 20 year lease, is opening the theater within the Tangram development, a 1.2 million square-foot mixed-use complex at 133-36 37th Ave. The theater is 34,000 square feet and includes seven screens.

In celebration of its opening, moviegoers will be able view movies for $3 from Friday, Nov. 12 through Wednesday, Nov. 17. The theater will be screening first-run movies, including Marvel’s Eternals.

“As we open our brand-new Tangram theater, we are showcasing the latest innovations to the theatrical experience,” said Richard Grover, VP Communications at Regal. “This theater represents the future of moviegoing with top-of-line technology and amenities including a 4DX auditorium.”

The developer, F&T Group, said it was a priority to include a theater in the development.

“When the historic RKO Keith Theater closed in 1986, Downtown Flushing was, and has been, at a loss without a movie theater,” said Helen Lee, Executive Vice President of F&T Group. “It was a high priority for us to bring a state-of-the-art cinematic experience back to the community. Regal Tangram 4DX’s opening solidifies Tangram as a lifestyle epicenter in Flushing and to the city at large.”

Regal says its Tangram cinema will provide the latest in-theater technology, .

Each auditorium, the company says, is equipped with the latest laser projection technology and sound enhancements making for the ultimate cinematic magic. The theater also features a 4DX auditorium, where the on-screen visuals of action-packed films are enhanced through special effects including motion-synchronized seats, wind, fog, rain, lightning, snow, bubbles, vibration and scents.

The theater is a component of the Tangram development, which encompasses 324 luxury apartments, 48 office condos, a four-star branded lifestyle hotel, a 27,000-square-foot food court and shopping—featuring an array of international and domestic brands.
