A motorcyclist is dead after blowing a red light and hitting a pedestrian in the crosswalk at a Middle Village intersection on Saturday.

Daniel Fernandez Torres, 27, of Maspeth, ran through a red light on his motorcycle and struck a 43-year-old woman who was crossing the street at the intersection of Woodhaven Boulevard and Dry Harbor Road at 10:30 p.m., according to police.

Police said Fernandez Torres was driving his 2007 Suzuki Colt at a high speed down Woodhaven Boulevard when he ran the light and struck the woman who was crossing within the crosswalk with the pedestrian signal.

The woman was knocked down and struck her head on the pavement, police said. The motorcycle slid across Woodhaven Boulevard before coming to rest as Fernandez Torres hit the pavement.

EMS responded and rushed both to Elmhurst Hospital, where Fernandez Torres was pronounced dead the next day. The 43-year-old woman remains in critical condition, police said.
