More Than 20 Injured in Elmhurst House Fire Sunday Morning

More than 20 people were injured Sunday after a fire broke out inside an Elmhurst house, according to the FDNY.

Firefighters received a 911 call at 7:44 a.m. that there was a blaze on the top floor of a 2.5 story house at 41-46 Hampton St.

Nearly 60 firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to bring the fire under control by about 8:30 a.m.

Twenty one civilians and one firefighter suffered minor injures. One person suffered serious injuries.

The FDNY did not provide the identity of the person seriously injured. However, emergency responders were seen providing medical treatment to a young child in pajamas in front of the house.

According to the NY Post, some of the occupants inside the house were seen jumping out of a top floor window since they were unable to get out.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Why is it every time there is an apartment or house fire, nothing is ever mentioned about a smoke alarm going off? It’s NYC law that every residence is supposed to have a smoke alarm!

Twenty-one civilians… in one house? I would truly love to know how many people the U.S. Census Bureau thought lived there.

21 people living in one house? It was 7:44AM, so I would assume that that many people were living there.
