Man Found Guilty of Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend in Fit of Rage: Queens DA

Marco Baez (NYPD)

Nov. 20, 2019 By Michael Dorgan

A 34-year-old Queens man has been convicted of brutally stabbing his ex-girlfriend in retaliation for being dumped.

Marco Baez, 34, of 43rd Avenue in Corona, was found guilty Monday of first-degree assault, criminal contempt and other crimes following a five-week trial.

Baez now faces up to 25 years in prison for his “heinous actions.”

“Ending a relationship should not put anyone at risk of losing their lives,” said Acting District Attorney John M Ryan.

“The defendant in this case could not take ‘no’ for an answer. He repeatedly violated orders of protection and in a fit of rage he stabbed the woman for whom he once professed to deeply love.”

On March 11, 2018, Baez and the victim argued inside the defendant’s former home on 65th Place in Woodside. During the argument, the defendant grabbed a knife and stabbed the 30-year-old victim in the abdomen.

The blade went through her stomach causing lacerations to the woman’s spleen and diaphragm which required surgery. She has since recovered.

After stabbing the victim, Baez called 911 and told them the woman had stabbed herself, and that she had been playing around with a knife.

When emergency responders arrived the victim initially reported varying stories about how she was stabbed, including that she was trying to open a beer and later claimed she had been jumped by a group of people while walking in the neighborhood.

However, the victim ultimately told hospital staff and authorities that the defendant caused her injuries.

Furthermore, on multiple occasions between May 2017 and March 2018, Baez violated orders of protection requiring him to stay away from the victim and not to contact her in any way.

Altogether, Baez was found guilty of first-degree assault, aggravated criminal contempt, fourth-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree grand larceny and numerous counts of criminal contempt. His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 18.
