Man Found Dead in Alleyway by North Corona House: NYPD

A man is found dead on Sunday after police discovered him in an alleyway in North Corona with trauma to his head.

Police received a 911 call at around 9:15 a.m. that there was an injured man in the vicinity of 104-19 35th Avenue. Upon arrival, police found a man unconscious and unresponsive with head wounds in an alleyway.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, and the investigation is ongoing. There have been no arrests.

Virgilio Taveras, 63, of Hillside Avenue, was arrested by detectives from the Queens Special Victims Squad two days later and booked at the 107th Precinct in Fresh Meadows. Taveras was arraigned on the Fourth of July in Queens Criminal Court on a complaint charging him with rape in the second degree, luring a child as an E felony, endangering the welfare of a child and other related crimes.
