A 30-year-old man died Wednesday after fleeing the scene of a car crash and running onto the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, where he was struck by a passing vehicle.
The victim was driving Wednesday night when he smashed into another car near the intersection of 69th Street and Broadway in Woodside, police said.
He then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. He ran onto the eastbound Brooklyn Queens Expressway with the other driver chasing behind him, police said.
The 30-year-old ran across all three lanes of the eastbound expressway and then all three lanes of the westbound side. He started running back across the westbound lanes and as he crossed the center lane, he was struck by a passing 2020 Chevy Suburban, police said.
Officers responded to a 911 call around 10:20 p.m. and found the 30-year-old unconscious and unresponsive on the roadway. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
The man’s identity is pending proper family notification.
The 29-year-old driver of the Chevy remained at the scene and wasn’t injured.
There were no arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
