Man Fatally Struck by Train at Woodhaven Boulevard Subway Station: Police

A man was fatally struck by a subway train in Elmhurst early Friday morning.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was hit by a train near the Woodhaven Boulevard M/R station at around 3:30 a.m., police said.

First responders pronounced him dead at the scene and removed his body from the subway tracks.

No criminality is suspected, police said.

More details were not immediately available. The NYPD is continuing the investigation.

The beloved coach died peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, Nov. 30, at age 99 and just five weeks shy of his 100th birthday.

“Throughout his long life, Coach Carnesecca represented St. John’s with savvy, humility, smarts, tenacity, wit, integrity and grace,” SJU President Rev. Brian Shanley said. “He was the public face of our University, and he embodied the values of our Catholic and Vincentian mission. We thank God for his legacy.”
