Elmhurst house fire leaves 2 dead and another critically hurt, NYPD Says

A deadly fire ripped through an Elmhurst house last night.

The fire broke out inside a two-story private dwelling at 42-24 Ithaca Street at around 10:30 pm.

Three men, whose identities have not yet been released, were found by firefighters in the house unresponsive and unconscious, according to the NYPD.

Two of the men were transported by EMS to Elmhurst General Hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other listed in critical condition. The third was taken to Forest Hills Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased, police said.

A Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

The blaze was brought under control by 11:27 pm.

Twenty-five units and 106 firefighters responded to the scene, according to an FDNY spokesman.

One firefighter was taken to a local hospital with a minor injury, the spokesman said.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. The fire is under investigation by the NYC Fire Marshall.
