Electrical Fire breaks out at Halal Restaurant, No Major Injuries Reported

A fire broke out Sunday night in the basement of a popular Halal restaurant on 74th Street.

The fire started at 5:44 pm inside the basement of Merit Kabab & Dumpling Place, located at 37-67 74th Street, according to the FDNY.

The fire was brought under control by 6:52 pm, after 12 units with 60 fire and EMS personnel responded, according to an FDNY spokesman. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the incident.

The fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring in the basement was ruled accidental, the spokesman said.
