Duo Wanted for String of Burglaries in Elmhurst, Maspeth and Woodside: NYPD

(NYPD)

March 6, 2020 By Allie Griffin

Police are searching for two men who burglarized at least seven businesses in Elmhurst, Maspeth and Woodside in February.

The duo hit six businesses in just three days and a seventh spot about two weeks later.

The first burglary took place at 85-08 Grand Ave. on Feb. 7 at 1:35 a.m., when the pair broke into a contracting business and a tutoring business in the same Elmhurst building.

They got into the general contractor business, Great Will 88 Contracting Inc., through an unlocked garage. They grabbed $6,000, as well as assorted jewelry and power tools, police said.

About five minutes later, the duo entered the Topway Tutoring Center at the location and took $30 and a bottle of wine.

The next day, the pair went to Maspeth and attempted to burglarize a pizzeria. At about 3:19 a.m., the men tried to get inside Forno Pizzeria & Trattoria Restaurant, located at 52-27 69th St., by breaking the front glass door. They failed to get inside and left empty-handed, police said.

About 10 minutes later, they broke into the coffee shop next door, at 52-17 69th St., by climbing through a bathroom window. The men took $1,450 in electronics and $200 cash from Jacups Coffee Bistro before fleeing, according to police.

The duo weren’t done yet — about a half hour later, at 4 a.m., they broke into a deli down the street at 53-33 69th St. by forcing open a side door to the basement. Inside Borjas Deli Grocery, the men rummaged through drawers and cabinets, but ultimately fled empty-handed.

The next day on Feb. 9, at 11 p.m., the men broke into USA Minimart, located at 48-10 69th St. in Woodside, near the Maspeth border, police said. They forced open a back door and grabbed $6,380, multiple lottery tickets and an iPad before fleeing in an unknown direction.

The two men burglarized a seventh business, in Elmhurst, about two weeks later on Feb. 22. They grabbed $400 from Corner Bakery, located at 84-02 Queens Blvd., after climbing through a basement window. The pair fled the bakery in an unknown direction, police said.

Anyone with information in regard to the identities of the males is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Two men sought for swastika vandalism case at Elmhurst Educational Campus: NYPD

The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is now searching for two vandals who scrawled a swastika on the front of the Elmhurst Educational Campus just south of the Long Island Rail Road tracks back in September.

Police from the 110th Precinct in Elmhurst reported that on the night of Friday, Sept. 20, two unidentified men drew the swastika on the front of 45-20 94th Street at around 9 p.m. The campus was created in an abandoned former manufacturing warehouse that was converted and is now home to four high schools serving over 1,600 students, including a District 75 special needs school.
