Candidate Forum for the Astoria/22nd District Council Seat to be Held Tuesday

District 22 Council Candidates: Felicia Kalan, Edwin DeJesus, Tiffany Cabán

Oct. 14, 2021 Staff Report

The Queens-Astoria Post is holding an online candidate forum next week for the 22nd Council district.

The event is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. and will include all the candidates running for the seat. The district covers Astoria, East Elmhurst and parts of Jackson Heights and Elmhurst.

The three candidates running for the seat are Tiffany Cabán, a Democrat, Felicia Kalan, a Republican, and Edwin DeJesus, who is an independent. All three will be participating.

The election is scheduled for November 2, with early voting beginning on Oct 23.

The winner will immediately take office to fill the void left by Costa Constantinides who stepped down earlier this year.

The Queens-Sunnyside Post attempted to put together a forum for the 26th Council district that is between Marvin Jeffcoat, Republican, and Julie Won, Democrat.

The 26th Council forum was originally going to be held in person at Sunnyside Community Services but was moved online since Jeffcoat has not been vaccinated.

Won has declined to participate in the forum. That forum has been canceled.
