A 22-year-old Asian man was assaulted in an unprovoked attack in a Long Island City subway station last month—and police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.

Police released video today of the suspect who allegedly approached the victim from behind at the Queens Plaza subway station and punched him. The incident took place on Sunday, April 28 at around 1:30 p.m.

The victim was repeatedly punched in the back and chest, and refused medical attention. A police spokesperson said the incident is being investigated as a hate crime since the victim is Asian and the attack was unprovoked. No words were reportedly exchanged between the attacker and victim during the incident.
