A man was struck and killed by an MTA bus early this morning in Jackson Heights, according to police.
The bus driver, 55, was driving a Q33 bus westbound on Roosevelt Avenue at around 2:45 a.m. when it struck the pedestrian at 75th Street.
Police say the victim was unresponsive upon arrival and suffered trauma to the head and body.
The victim, whose identity is being withheld by authorities pending family notification, was transported to Elmhurst Hospital by EMS, where he was declared deceased.
Police say the bus driver remained on scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.

Another, limp wrist weak azz. Once again those of you who cry for tolerance are the first to stereotype. Poo poo, not all Castro’s are Cuban. As for drivers violating the VTL. Here you go, make the road test a lot more difficult, currently, even a person on life support with a pulse can pass the road test. Secondly, make the written test in English, because all of the signs everywhere in NYS are in guess what ENGLISH. I know most people won’t like these suggestions ,because your all backward liberals. PS, don’t hide behind fake name Patttttttter.
How do you not see a big city bus coming? Please note that the driver was not arrested so most likely the police concluded the driver wasn’t at fault.
Umm, did posters actually read the article before posting? The incident occurred at 2:45 a.m. not p.m.. The victim more then likely disobeyed the signals and tried to cross while the bus had the way. Also if buses have no passengers waiting at a stop or getting off they don’t have a need to slow down. So where 74th could use some afternoon regulations and improvements with the help of traffic flow control and more ticketing and adding a grid box to prevent blocking of the intersection would make sense as long as it’s enforced. People, just honestly need to remember to look both ways before crossing at all times. Instead of your phone’s, cause if you did it’s kind of hard to miss seeing a buss coming at you.
This is an absurdly dangerous intersection. This tragedy was predictable and preventable. Some suggestions for improvements: a) The bus routes around the terminal need to be thought through and planned, with lanes and stoplights specifically for the buses, especially as they turn. b) There needs to be far improved signage. The signage on 74th is completely misleading to pedestrians and drivers–crazy. c) The bus drivers need training and support–stop beeping and accelerating wildly (and stop leaving engines running while parked for more than a few minutes) to get through the frustrating traffic. d) Across the neighborhood, stop focusing so much on giving out parking tickets; focus more on safety, including giving out moving violations tickets. This is solvable! Come on, MTA, DOT, and other city agencies–let’s see serious improvement at this important intersection, please.
This is a buss stop and buss drivers should drive slowly cause here is a hudge train station too and people get out of train tired and busses are in a rush just to get at the final stop
