Oct. 4, 2021 Staff Report

The parent association at an Elmhurst school held its first “Dads Take Your Child to School Day” on Thursday as part of a statewide initiative that promotes the importance of fathers being involved in their children’s studies.

The event was held by the PS/IS 102Q Bayview Parent Association and was called Donuts with Dad. It was held in conjunction with New York State’s Dads Take Your Child to School Day.

Organizers held the event as a means to increase father engagement at the school.

More than 200 dads and father figures attended. They brought their children to the 55-24 Van Horn St. school and participated.

Parents received individually sealed donuts and magnet event calendars that were provided by the parent association.

The Dads Take Your Child to School Day initiative was started by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services and the NYS Office of Temporary Disability Assistance and is now celebrated in more than 700 locations across the country.

The parent association also partnered with NYC Health + Hospitals’ Test and Trace Corps to distribute PPE including adult masks, children’s masks, bottles of hand sanitizer, and print materials about the COVID-19 vaccine and preventing the spread of COVID-19 (in multiple languages such as English, Chinese, and Spanish). Over 2,000 masks were distributed at the event.

Identity obsession again, sexist and narrow minded. Just like the same thing with take your daughters to work day back in the day. How about take your child to work day and eliminate sexism/narrow mindness from both sides.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
