Two men were shot — one fatally — on a residential street in North Corona early this morning.

Shortly before 4 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a man shot in front of 32-33 108th St. Arriving officers found a 42-year-old man, unconscious and unresponsive, with a gunshot wound to the body, police said.

EMS rushed the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he pronounced dead.

A second victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot in the abdomen nearby the spot where the first victim was found. He was taken to the same hospital, via private means, in stable condition, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and there are no arrests at this point, the NYPD said.

The identity of the deceased victim has not been released, as officers work to notify his family members.

My point is made, yet again, with the death of homeowner and landlord Edgar Moncayo of 102nd Street. Raise the bar of who you’re renting to, stop renting to thugs, illegals and run of the mill dead beats, you’re endangering your neighbors, your families and yourself.

The city needs to start fining landlords who are illegally turning homes into multiple family dwellings, illegally renting out rooms and turning basements into illegal apartments. Also the zoning laws regarding the number of occupants to an apartment or house must be enforced. Most of the people who are being arrested for these crimes are transients (overwhelmingly illegal) who are renting rooms and in many cases renting just a bed. If people want to stop the down turn of Corona and Elmhurst they need to start turning these landlords into code enforcement.
