A 4-year-old boy is in critical condition after being struck by the driver of an illegal dirt bike in a hit-and-run incident in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park Sunday.

The young boy was in the boathouse parking lot at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park at around 5:50 p.m. when the dirt bike rider slammed into him at a high rate of speed. The rider then raced away from the scene on his bike, police said.

The child was rushed to Flushing Hospital with injuries to his head and torso. He was later transferred to Cohen’s Children’s Medical Center where he remains in a critical but stable condition, police said.

The suspect is described as a man with black dreadlocks. He was riding a black and gold-colored dirt bike, according to police.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Police said that there was a group of people riding illegal dirt bikes in the parking lot at the time of the incident.
