Dec. 20, 2023 By Ethan Marshall Two Queens-based organizations were awarded grants on Wednesday, Dec. 13, to better serve community members most impacted by the HIV epidemic. The Caribbean Equality Project in Richmond Hill and Colectivo Intercultural TRANSgrediendo of Jackson Heights were among the six recipients of grant money from the Amida Care Fund at Stonewall Community Foundation. Amida Care is a not-for-profit health organization that specializes in providing comprehensive health coverage and coordinated care to people affected by HIV. Dec. 20, 2023 By Iryna Shkurhan Mayor Eric Adams held a town hall meeting in Corona Monday night with residents demanding answers as to how the city plans to address increased prostitution, illegal vending and the proliferation of unlicensed smoke shops in the neighborhood. More than hundred attendees attended the event in the gymnasium at Elm Tree Elementary School on 98th Street and peppered the mayor with questions primarily dealing with quality-of-life issues. Dec. 19, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The number of reported felony assault cases in Queens has increased over the last month when compared to the same period in 2022, according to the latest crime stats released by the NYPD on Monday. Felony assault cases have increased in both northern and southern Queens for the 28-day period from Nov. 20 through Dec. 17, compared to the same 28-day period last year. Rental price growth in NYC slows for first time since pandemic: report

Dec. 14, 2023 By Ethan Marshall The year-over-year rent growth for the month of November in New York City was 2.9%, marking the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic that it rose less than 3%, according to a new report. The real estate firm StreetEasy released the report that found the median rent fell from $3,600 in November 2022 to $3,500 last month. The slower rent growth is reflective of more homes being available for rent across the city, according to StreetEasy.
