Elmhurst Hospital Nationally Recognized as Leader in Combating High Blood Pressure

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst

Dec. 10, 2018 By Meghan Sackman

Elmhurst Hospital has been nationally recognized for its efforts to curb and treat high blood pressure among its patients, the hospital announced today.

The center, known officially as NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, was recognized by the American Medical Association and the American Heart Association for its leadership in controlling high blood pressure and therefore reducing heart attacks and strokes annually.

The hospital was one out of 802 health systems that were recognized through this year’s Target: BP™ recognition awards. Target: BP™ is an initiative created in 2015 by the AMA and AHA in an effort to control the rising cases of high blood pressure in the United States.

“We are enormously proud of our successes in helping our patients control their blood pressure and avoid strokes, heart disease, and their complications,” said Israel Rocha, chief executive officer of NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst.

Rocha added that Elmhurst Hospital physicians work closely with patients to help them make lifestyle adjustments aimed at controlling high blood pressure, including exercise and healthy eating.

NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, a 545-bed hospital with a level one Trauma Center and an Emergency Heart Care Center, is one of the 1,600 physician practices and health systems in the country that have joined Target: BP™ and its mission to reduce the number of American adults with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

About 103 million Americans have high blood pressure, with one in four New Yorkers suffering from the condition.

JHeights my whole life

I am glad that Elmhurst Hospital was recognized for it’s high blood pressure program. They were also recognized for having the highest wait to enter the emergency room and to see a doctor. I remember going to the waiting room for the emergency room back in the late 90’s and watching passed out men slumped in a chair and bleeding for hours. I used to go to that hospital for care and was told to return for an exam. When I went back and waited over an hour for the examination I was told we dont do that test here. Anytime someone in my family needs emergency room care they go to New York Presbyterian Queens in Flushing or Long Island Jewish in Rego Park. We don’t go to Elmhurst no even to use the bathroom.

The Mount Sinai on 30th in Astoria is bad too. They did a nice renovation now. Very modern but the outside may look nice but the staff and service has that gotten better? Remains to be seen…
