A 27-year-old Bronx man has been convicted for brutally stabbing to death a Woodside man under the 90th Street-Elmhurst Avenue subway station in 2013.

The defendant, Steven Torres, stabbed the victim, Ever Orozco, 69, multiple times beneath the train platform on Sept. 16, 2013 at around 1 p.m. Orozco had just dropped his wife off at a doctor’s office and had parked his car near the subway station, according to the District Attorney’s office.

Orozco was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Torres claimed that Orozco had provoked him by “blowing kisses” at him and making sexual advances, according to reports at the time.

However, Torres had stabbed another man, a 47-year-old coworker, a week earlier, and told detectives that the victim had made similar advances. Police expressed doubts that either victim had actually made advances towards the defendant.

District Attorney Richard Brown called the murder a “violent, unprovoked attack.”

“The defendant fatally stabbed an innocent bystander in a senseless act of rage,” Brown said. “The jury weighed all the evidence presented at trial and after deliberating for just 11 minutes found the defendant guilty of murder. At sentencing, the defendant faces a very long term of incarceration that will protect others and punish him for this horrible crime.”

Torres is scheduled to be sentenced on June 8, and will face up to 25 years to life in prison.
