FDNY: Man Arrested After Trying to Set Elmhurst Restaurant Ablaze Following Wage Dispute

Andrew Chung (FDNY)

April 6, 2018 By Christian Murray

A man who got into a dispute with the owner of an Elmhurst seafood restaurant Wednesday has been arrested after trying to set his employer’s restaurant on fire.

Andrew Chung, a 41-year-old Jamaica resident, entered Islanders Seafood Restaurant located at 79-21 Queens Blvd at around 11 a.m. Wednesday with a container of gasoline, according to the FDNY.

Chung then splashed the gasoline inside the restaurant and soaked a female. He was restrained briefly by employees who prevented him from igniting it. Chung fled the scene before fire and police personnel arrived.

Chung was apprehended later that night by FDNY Fire Marshals in the vicinity of his residence.

“If the gasoline had been lit, many lives would have been in peril because of this dangerous act,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro in a statement.

Chung was charged with second-degree attempted arson, attempted assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon.
