Jackson Gyro Opens On 37th Avenue, Offers Greek Street Food and American Cuisine

Jackson Gyro

Feb. 9. 2018 By Tara Law

A new restaurant that offers Greek street food and American cuisine opened in Jackson Heights this week.

Jackson Gyro, which opened Monday at 85-30 37th Ave, serves American classics, such as breakfast platters, bagels, sandwiches and burgers, alongside Greek specialties such as gyros, souvlaki, octopus, tzatziki and falafel.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The establishment is owned by Flushing resident Alex Doulaveris, 25, along with his father, Jimmy Doulaveris, and uncle, Angelo Kassimis.

The family owned Bagel Café, which operated out of the same address for several years. The family decided to close it and overhaul the venue.

Doulaveris’s family has a long legacy of running restaurants in New York City. His grandfather is the former owner of the historic Munson Diner, which was located in a dining car in Hell’s Kitchen for decades.

Doulaveris also has a deep connection to Greece. Much of his family still lives in Athens, and he tries to visit them every other year.

“It’s definitely a nostalgia thing,” said Doulaveris of the food he serves. “When I go to Athens, this is the stuff I eat.”

The restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to midnight daily.

First week food fresh and portion size good specially the spinach pie nice thick square size.Today I got a triangle about 2/3 size and flat as can be.
The chicken doner was totally dry with no flavor. Even the tzatziki had no flavor.

Nice!! I moved from Astoria to JH last year and sometimes I do not feel in the mood to go to Astoria especially with all the traffic, subway and utilities work going on now. It’s great to have some Greek food around here now.
