bqeAug. 18, 2015 By Michael Florio

The DOT will be spending the next 10 weeks painting two Woodside bridges that go over the Brooklyn Queens Expressway– a job that will require lane closures on the BQE.

The DOT will begin the project on the 69th Street Bridge and the Woodside Avenue Bridge starting Friday. The DOT expects the work, which will require lane closures on the BQE in each direction, to be completed by October 31st.

The DOT will close a single lane in both directions at the following times:

–Monday through Friday from 10 am to 3 pm and 10:30 pm to 5 am

–Friday through Saturday from 11 pm to 6 am

–Sunday from 12:01 am to 12 pm

It will close two-lanes on the BQE at the following times:

–Tuesday through Friday from 12:01 am to 5 am

–Saturdays from 12:01 am to 6 am (two lanes only if needed)

–Sundays from 12 am to 8 am (two lanes only if needed)

The two-lane closures on the weekends may be cut back to one lane depending on the work being conducted at that given time, according to Nancy Catapano, Community Liaison with the DOT.

The work is weather dependent and the schedule is subject to change if necessary, according to the DOT.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
