A new school might be on the horizon in Jackson Heights.

Councilman Daniel Dromm has been in discussions with the School Construction Authority (SCA) about building a school at the old White Castle Headquarters at 69-01 34th Avenue.

The school would ease school overcrowding in both Jackson Heights and Elmhurst, which are part of the two most overcrowded districts in the city.

“Since I was elected to office in 2009, it has been my priority to add new school seats to our district.  I believe this old White Castle site would be a great location,” Dromm said in a statement.

Dromm said that while he has been in discussion with SCA about the site it was important the community provide feedback.

A discussion is scheduled for May 21, at the monthly community board 3 meeting, held at Louis Armstrong Middle School, located at 32-02 Junction Blvd.

It was also discussed last night at Community Board 3’s joint Education and Land Use Committee hearing, which was held at the board’s district office, located on the sixth floor at 82-11 37th Ave.

The minutes from last night’s meeting were not available.

Community Board 3’s District Manager Giovanna Reid could not be reached for comment.
