Police looking for men who allegedly stole thousands from Queens apartment seekers

Suspect (NYPD)

July 25, 2017 By Jason Cohen

The NYPD is looking for three men who allegedly conned people into giving them thousands in deposits for apartments in Queens that were already rented.

The suspects put the listings on Facebook, rented the apartments and gave the victims keys in exchange for a deposit. However, once the victims arrived at the apartments, they realized there were people living there.

The scheme began on April 1, when a 40-year-old woman met with a suspect at 77-01 31st Avenue in East Elmhurst and gave him a deposit of $1,400.

Later that month, on April 21, a 25-year-old female met with a suspect at 41-62 70th Street in Elmhurst and gave him a deposit of $1,800.

Two days later, a suspect conned $1,800 out of a victim for an apartment at 94-22 Jackson Mill Road in East Elmhurst.

Then on June 6, a victim met with a suspect at 137-58 Northern Boulevard in Flushing, and gave him a deposit of $1,500.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477)
