Target to open store where Jackson Heights Cinema was located

Target

May 2, 2017 By Jason Cohen

Target, the second largest discount store in the country, is coming to Jackson Heights.

The store is set to open at the beginning of 2018, and will be part of an 80,000 square foot building that is replacing the old movie theater at 40-31 82nd Street.

The retailer signed a 15-year lease and will take more than 20,000 square feet of space on the ground floor of the building known as the Shoppes at 82nd Street. The greater development comes with retail, offices and underground parking.

The cinema, which was built in 1924, closed three years ago after the operator was unable to pay the rent.

The theater was then bought in September 2016 by Sun Equity Partners and the Heskel Group for $27 million.

Target currently has stores in other Queens neighborhoods such as Forest Hills, Elmhurst and College Point.

It’s not fake news. That’s what was known at the time. The developer said that’s when it would open. The problem is, the story should have attributed the opening date to the developer.

They should put a jail there. Its local. People from the hood dont be traveling to far to go visit friends and relatives who are incarcerated

Underground parking. Terrible idea. We need to discourage driving through that congested area, which has very narrow streets, in favor of transit, bike and foot traffic.

With all the congestion up there that would be the only solution. Only thing it that I’m sure they will charge and there will be plently of non target shopper parking there ….

Good idea we don’t have store like this for a long time make Jackson Heights more upgrades and I think I could get to work there since I live a block away from this location ??
