Several Jackson Heights muni-meters will be replaced this week as part of the Department of Transportation’s goal to install technologically-advanced meters city wide.
The DOT began installing the new muni-meters in 2013 and is expected to complete the revamp across the 5 boroughs by the end of the week, according to the DOT.
The meters aim to reduce credit card issues and provide the DOT with the ability to service them remotely.
The DOT is also working on another project which involves installing software in every meter across the city that will provide pre-payment functionality. This will allows motorists to purchase a receipt one hour before meter regulations go into effect.
For example, if meter regulations begin at 9 am, a motorist can purchase a receipt at 8 am, but only pay from 9 am onwards, according to the DOT.
That change too will be completed across all 5 boroughs by the end of the week.
