East Elmhurst church demolished to make way for residential units

April 11, By Hannah Wulkan

A local developer is looking to build five three-story buildings, with a total of 14 units, on a site that was the former home of an East Elmhurst church.

The developer filed plans last week to build five two or three-family homes on the site of the former Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church at 69-05 Ditmars Boulevard.

According to the plans, each building will have three floors with two to three units per building, and there will be one or two parking spaces on the cellar level, depending on the building.

The new development will take the place of the church, which was built in 1963 for the Evangelical Lutheran Church, which was founded in 1897 in East Elmhurst.

The developer purchased the building in December 2015 for $2.3 million.
