Mother of baby killed by truck in crosswalk starts fundraiser to cover funeral costs

Skylar Perkins

March 29, 2017 By Hannah Wulkan

The mother of a 1-year-old girl that was fatally struck by a truck last week has started a fundraiser to help pay for her daughter’s funeral.

Last week, mother Frederique Rowe was pushing her baby across 23rd Avenue at 94th Street in a stroller when a truck turned in to the crosswalk and hit the stroller.

The child, Skylar Perkins, died, and driver Wallace Ramirez was charged for failing to yield to a pedestrian and failing to exercise due caution.

Now, Rowe has started a fundraiser to help her pay for her daughter’s funeral on the website GoFundMe.

She wrote on the page, “My daughter was struck and killed by a car while we were on our way to our home I’m starting this campaign because I need the help of everyone right now to rest my daughter. Anything you can donate will be highly appreciated thank you.”

Since launching on Saturday, the campaign has raised $11,960 towards a goal of $15,000 with 364 donations, and many community members have left condolence messages on the page.

Ramirez was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court last Friday and will next appear in court on March 31.

I feel really bad for the driver too. He didn’t set out to kill a baby that day or drinking behind the wheel.
If the mother also wasn’t on her phone when crossing a road she may have had better reaction more hands to push the stroller out of harms way. I always stay it Least a foot back at lights incase a car mounted the kerb I have time to react.

Very tragic
