Pedestrians get more time to cross the 37th Avenue intersection where man was killed

The Department of Transportation has added new safety measures that will give pedestrians more time to cross a dangerous 37th Avenue intersection, following the death of a local man in a crosswalk in January.

The DOT has installed Leading Pedestrian Intervals, or LPI, at the intersection of 37th Avenue and 76th Street.  An LPI provides pedestrians with seven seconds to cross before drivers get the green light.

The program was brought to the intersection after Henry Boimel was hit and killed by an Uber driver at that location.

Following a town hall meeting where nearly 150 people came out to voice their concerns last month, Dromm reached out to the Department of Transportation to request that LPI be installed at the intersection.

Of course it’s staged. It’s also the wrong corner. That being said, ALL intersections should have that LPI, and they should be A LOT longer than seven seconds.
