A Long Island man was charged with committing a hate crime after yelling slurs and attacking and injuring two transgender women in Jackson Heights on Friday.
Patrick O’Meara was arrested after assaulting two transgender women on Friday around 4:30 p.m. outside of the McDonalds on 82nd Street near Roosevelt Avenue, sending both to Forest Hills Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say O’Meara was highly intoxicated at the time.
According to the criminal complaint, O’Meara yelled slurs at the victims, calling them “b–ches” and “f-ggots.” He then threw one of the victims to the ground, punching and kicking her.
He also used a cane to hit one of the victims, lacerating her hand, according to the complaint, and punched one of the victims in the face.
Both victims were taken to Forest Hills Hospital, where one of them was treated for a fractured ankle.
The complaint states that O’Meara said to police, “Those b–ches assaulted me, I’m pressing charges, f–k you, you f–king f-ggot.”
O’Meara was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree as a hate crime.
He was arraigned Saturday in Queens Criminal Court and was held on $5,000 bond or $2,500 cash bail. He will appear back in court on March 31.
