The fathers of Jackson Heights are coming together for a beer.

A local dad with a 4-year-old daughter is looking to revive his social life, and is calling upon other neighborhood dads to do the same.

Jonny Goldstein recently moved to Jackson Heights about 18 months ago and is ready for a local get-together.

He is setting up an event that he is calling ‘Dads’ Beer Meet Up’ on July 31st at 9:30 pm. The meet up will be held at Ready Penny Inn, located at 37-07 73rd Street, just off of 37th Ave.

“Your social life takes a hit after you have a kid because you have to stay home a lot,” Goldstein said. “I want to improve my social life and also meet more parents in the neighborhood.”

Goldstein said the get-together would also allow him to speak with other fathers to and find out information about the schools and doctors in the neighborhood.

However, he believes there are plenty of dads in the community that could benefit from a meet up like this.

“Maintaining a social life after having kids is a universal issue,” he said. “It is very difficult to balance.”

He planned it for 9:30 pm, so the dads can come out after they put their kids to bed.

So far he has five people who have said they plan on attending.

If the meet up is successful, Goldstein would aim to do it monthly. He has not yet considered what activities they could do in future months, but said a night at a local bar for a drink each month is what he currently has in mind.

Those interested in attending should RSVP to Goldstein by emailing him at: jonny.goldstein@gmail.com.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
