NYPD: 72-year-old pedestrian struck dead while crossing Grand Central Parkway

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on the Grand Central Parkway last night.

According to police, a 72-year-old man was hit by a yellow taxi while trying to walk across the Grand Central Parkway around 11:18 p.m. Monday.

The cab was traveling eastbound in the left lane just east of Northern Boulevard when the man stepped out in front of the car. The driver swerved to the right in an attempt to avoid hitting him, but struck the man with the driver side of the vehicle.

When police arrived on the scene they found the man lying in the middle of the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive with severe head trauma. He was taken to New York Hospital of Queens, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver remained on the scene, and an investigation in to the incident is still ongoing.

The deceased name is being held until the family can be properly notified.

The victim was standing on the southbound M/R platform at the 59th Avenue subway station on the Queens Boulevard line when a stranger approached her and touched her left buttocks, police said. The brute fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The woman was not injured during the incident.
