Nov. 7, 2016 Staff Report
A 22-year-old Corona man was sentenced to 35 years in prison today after being convicted last month of trying to kill a police officer and another man in Elmhurst in 2014, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office.
Christian Mosquera, a known gang member, was sentence after being found guilty of a June 21, 2014 shooting, where he chased a man along Lamont Avenue and then began firing his weapon. When the police responded to the scene at about 1:45 am, Mosquera was asked to drop his gun but instead he fired one shot at the officers before fleeing.
Mosquera was nabbed by police a week later in Union City, NJ.
Queens District Attorney Richard A Brown said it was fortunate that no one was hurt in the incident. “Under the circumstances, the sentence imposed by the Court today is more than warranted.”
