Queens residents may be about to stack on the pounds as the Cheesecake Factory has just opened its first location in the City.
The Cheesecake Factory opened in the Queens Center Mall in Elmhurst yesterday, marking its first location in New York City, and bringing in 285 new jobs and 36 flavors of cheesecake to the neighborhood.
“The Cheesecake Factory has been eager to open a restaurant in New York City for many years. New York is an incredible, energetic city that’s known for great food, and we are excited to finally have a restaurant here,” said Alethea Rowe, Senior Director of Public Relations for The Cheesecake Factory.
The restaurant opened in a 8,000 square foot space at 90-15 Queens Boulevard, and is serving up a menu with more than 250 options as well as offering a full bar.
The new location also has a covered patio and roll up windows that can be left open on nice days, Rowe said.
The establishment is open for lunch and dinner every day, as well as brunch on Sundays, with hours running from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, and longer hours on the weekend, opening from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Rowe added that the restaurant chain would “love to have another location in New York City in the future,” and will continue to look for new sites.
The Cheesecake Factory dates back to a family cheesecake recipe from the 1940s, when the Overton family opened a bakery in Detroit. In the 1970s, they moved to Los Angeles and opened the Cheesecake Factory Bakery, according to the company website.
In 1978 the family opened the first Cheesecake Factory restaurant in Beverly Hills, and it has since grown to include over 200 locations throughout the country.
