Vehicle involved (NYPD)

Sept. 16, 2016 Staff Report

Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit and run that put a motorcycle rider in hospital last month.

On August 19 around 4:30 p.m. a 21 year old man was riding east on 37th Avenue on his motorcycle when the SUV in front of him attempted to make a U-turn. The motor bike rider collided into the vehicle as it began making the turn. The rider was thrown from his motorcycle in front of 85-21 37th Avenue, and the driver fled west.

The victim suffered a fractured right hand and was transported to Elmhurst General Hospital, where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a red Cadillac SRS SUV, and the operator was a white or Hispanic male between 20 and 30 years old with black hair.

Police have released a photo and video of the car, and anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

That’s not quite what I would call a hit and run. The driver made an illegal u-turn (no surprise, since traffic rules are typically flouted by most residents in JH), and the motorbike ran into the car. The driver, however, should be held accountable for not doing the right thing and stopping to see if the person was fine, etc.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
