Corona residents will celebrate the $2 million upgrade of a local park today with a ribbon cutting and back to school event.

The upgrades to Hinton Park, located at 37th Avenue and 113th Street, were funded entirely through Council Member Julissa Ferreras-Copeland’s office, and were finished four months ahead of schedule.

The park update included the installation of a volleyball court, adult fitness equipment, game tables, and drinking fountains, and upgraded the seating area in the north end of the park with new plantings and benches.

The ribbon cutting will begin at 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, and Ferreras-Copeland will be joined by NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver, Senator Jose Peralta and District Manager of Community Board 3 Giovanna Reid. Hintonbaseball

Directly following the ribbon cutting from 5 to 8 p.m., Ferreras-Copeland will host a back to school celebration in the newly upgraded park, which will include school supply giveaways, as well as free bike helmets and helmet fittings.
