A transgender woman was struck with a hammer early Wednesday morning in Woodside, according to police.
The victim was walking down 67th Street around 6 a.m. when the suspect came up behind her and struck her with a hammer, causing a deep laceration. The man then reportedly shouted at her, “This is what you get for being gay,” before fleeing the scene.
The victim, who was reportedly bleeding heavily, was taken to Elmhurst General Hospital for treatment.
An investigation is still ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
