Residents of Jackson Heights and East Elmhurst will be able to watch a free movie at their local park this August.

State Sen. Jose Peralta will host “Movies in the Park 2016,” with a film playing in each neighborhood this month.

Residents will be able to watch “Minions” on August 11th, at 8:30 pm, at East Elmhurst Playground, located on 25th Ave, between 99th Street and 100th Street.

“This is an opportunity for the community to come together, gather in a local park, and enjoy a free summer night film surrounding by families and friends,” said Peralta.

“The outdoor movie screenings are open to the public, and we chose family-oriented films so everyone can enjoy them.”

A second screening is planned for Travers Park, located at 34th Ave and 77th Street, on August 27th.  The film “Zootopia” will be screened.

“We encourage neighbors to bring blankets so they can watch the films more comfortably,” said Senator Peralta.

The movies are free, open to the public and begin at dusk. Movies in the Park is co-sponsored by Woodside on the Move and Fidelis Care.

There’s a lot of rats in Travis Park.. They come out at night even when there’s people around. I was there the other night around 7:30 and yup they were around the kids. Be careful

Thanks for the info. That’s frightening. I was thinking about checking out Zootopia but um, if it’s a rodent infestation, that would be a no.

Yeah. I was recently talking about that park my neighbors and they all were aware of the rodent infestation. They stopped going to that park for the same reason. Sad story.
