Health Department DOH Closure

July 12, 2016 Staff Report

The Health Department temporarily closed two local Latin restaurants last week.

Cocolon Restaurant, located at 90-16 Corona Ave., was closed on July 6, according to Health Department records. Empanadas Monumental, located at 64-03 Roosevelt Ave. in Woodside, was closed the next day.

Empanadas Monumental, which serves more than 24 kinds of empanadas, received a number of violations including food being kept at the wrong temperature, improper protection of food from contamination during storage, bad plumbing and sewage disposal, and poor access to hand washing facilities.

Calls to the restaurant went unanswered Monday and Tuesday. It is unclear if it has since reopened.

Cocolon Restaurant reopened yesterday, according to store employees. The restaurant team could not be reached for comment as of this writing.

They were shut down after receiving violations including food being kept at the wrong temperature and improper plumbing, according to the Health Department.
