Residents can take out a library book, shred their documents or pickup a new rain barrel all at once this Saturday in Jackson Heights.

Councilman Costa Constantinides and Assemblyman Michael DenDekker are teaming up to host “Books, Barrel, and Shredding” tomorrow, which will take place from 10 am to 2 pm at the Jackson Heights Shopping Center (31st Ave and 77th Street).

Residents can sign up in advance for a free rain barrel. The barrels are typically used by conservationists to collect rainwater that is then used for gardening and other purposes, Constantinides said.

“Many residents have expressed interest in using rain barrels,” he said.

Rain barrels are limited so residents who want one should RSVP to: mcorbett@council.nyc.gov.

A mobile library provided by the Queens Library will be stationed at the shopping center.

Constantinides and DenDekker put in a request for the mobile library so residents who are not within walking distance to a local library are able to take out books.

Residents will also have the ability to shred their personal documents for free, in an attempt to prevent identity theft.  The paper shredding will end at 1 pm.

Following these events, a free community concert—organized by DenDekker’s office– will take place at the shopping center from 4 pm to 6 pm. Residents are advised to bring their own lawn chair. There will be a local brass band, as well as a rock and roll band performing.

“This free concert is a chance for me to show the members of this community how much I appreciate them, and how proud I am to represent them,” DenDekker said.

“I’m excited to spend my Saturday afternoon listening to great music from local bands and enjoying the company of my friends and neighbors.”

I send the email requesting for rain barrel, but still didn’t get it, they said my name is not in the list. Feel like a scam to me. Shred some junk mail though.

Masked gunman robs Total Wireless store in Flushing, steals $6K: NYPD

Police from the 109th Precinct in Flushing are looking for a masked gunman who pulled off an armed robbery at a cell phone store on the night of Monday, May 5.

The suspect entered the Total Wireless shop located in the old Hua Cheng Restaurant at 41-19 Kissena Blvd., across the street from the Queens Public Library branch, just before 7 p.m. He approached the counter, pulled out a firearm, and threatened the 27-year-old woman who was working the night shift, police said Wednesday.
