77th Street likely to become one-way street, Q47 to change route

Q47

June 15, 2015 By Michael Florio

The Q47 bus is likely to have to change its route as a section of 77th Street is likely to be converted into a one-way street.

The popular bus line, which runs from the Marine Air Terminal in LaGuardia Airport to the shops at Atlas Park in Glendale, is likely to change its route in Jackson Heights.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to turn 77th Street into a one-way street between 25th Ave and 30th Ave, according to a DOT spokesman.  However, before that goes into effect, the plan has to be approved by Community Board 3 and other stakeholders.

If the plan is approved, which is likely, the Q47 bus route will change.

The DOT is currently working with the MTA to find an alternative route, whereby current bus riders will still be able to access a stop nearby. The plan is for there to be stop near the Jackson Heights Shopping Center, the spokesman said.

The plan will be presented to community board 3 in September.

The bus reroute was suppose to be discussed at a community board 3 traffic and transportation committee meeting earlier this month, but the talks were pushed back until September to allow more time for the DOT and MTA to work out their plans.

The Q47 runs through Jackson Heights, Woodside, Maspeth and Glendale.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
