A massive new gym will be opening on Roosevelt Avenue this spring.

Planet Fitness, which will be located at 86-01 Roosevelt Ave., will be a 17,000-square-foot, 2-story facility, according to co-owners James and Jeff Innocenti, who are brothers.

The ground floor will be set up primarily with cardio machines, each with a personal TV.

“We have so many cardio machines that there will be no need to sign up to use one in advance or no limit to how long a member can use it,” Jeff Innocenti, CEO of Planet Fitness NY, said.

Free weights and machines will be downstairs, as well as a spa for certain members.

While the gym does not offer classes, it does offer free fitness guidance from a fitness instructor.

The Innocentis, who own all the Planet Fitness locations in the New York metro area, said they saw a need for a facility in Jackson Heights.

“We thought we could fulfill a real need in the community with our high value, low priced model,” Jeff Innocenti said.

The gym will offer the standard Planet Fitness memberships: for $10 per month, members will get full use of the facility at just this location. For $19.99 per month, members will get full use of the facility, guest privileges, access to all Planet Fitness locations, half-off any cooler drinks and use of massage chairs and spa.

There will be no limit on how many members can register at this location.

According to Jeff Innocenti, the pair has been interested in opening a location near Junction Boulevard for some time, but it was a long process to find a spacious enough property.

“We feel we are in the heart of Jackson Heights,” Jeff said.

“It is also near 37th Ave and 82nd Street,” he added. “It is a very busy location.”

It was important to the Innocentis that the gym be located near train stations, since they do not offer a parking lot.

They believe residents will be excited about the gym’s opening.

“We think people will be excited about the location and what we can offer for the price,” Jeff said.

Pre-opening membership sign ups will begin on Feb. 29.

“We usually start membership sign ups about 60-days prior to opening,” James Innocenti, COO of Planet Fitness NY, said. “We have an anticipated opening date around the end of April.”

There is another western Queens Planet Fitness located at 30-33 Steinway Street in Astoria. The Innocentis are interested in opening another facility in Sunnyside, Long Island City or Astoria in the future.

Op-Ed | Hochul: Action is Imperative on Shoplifting, but Violent Crime is Just Fine

Apr. 29, 2024 By Council Member James F. Gennaro

Negotiations regarding the New York State budget have just concluded a few days ago and a budget has passed after more than two weeks of delays. But while Gov. Kathy Hochul has proclaimed this year’s ‘bold agenda’ aims to make New York ‘safer,’ there hasn’t been so much as a whisper about the safety issue New Yorkers actually care about – New York States’s dangerous bail reform laws and the State’s absence of a ‘dangerousness standard,’ which would allow judges to detain without bail those defendants that pose a present a clear and present danger to our communities. (The 49 other states and the federal government have a dangerousness standard. NY State is the only state that lacks this essential protection from the State’s most dangerous offenders.)
