Health Dept. Temporarily Closes Two Jackson Heights Restaurants For Unsanitary Conditions

Health Department DOH Closure

Feb. 10, 2016 By Michael Florio

The Health Department temporarily shut down two Jackson Heights restaurants within the last week.

Both Pizza Sam, located at 89-06 Northern Blvd., and Khaabar Baari, a Bangladeshi restaurant located at 37-22 73rd St., were shut down due to failing their health inspections.

Khaabar Baari was shut down on Feb. 8. Critical violations included live roaches present in the establishment, food not properly protected from contamination and a food contact surface not properly cleaned, according to DOH records.

Inspectors also found that the establishment was not vermin-proof, among other violations.

The restaurant is set to reopen tomorrow, according to an employee. The owner was unable to be reached for comment.

Pizza Sam was shut down on Feb. 4.

The DOH found evidence of mice in the establishment, according to their records.

The pizzeria also received violations for cold food items stored at too high a temperature, and a food contact surface not properly cleaned.

The pizzeria reopened yesterday, according to a store employee. The owner could not be reached for comment.

The victim was standing on the southbound M/R platform at the 59th Avenue subway station on the Queens Boulevard line when a stranger approached her and touched her left buttocks, police said. The brute fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. The woman was not injured during the incident.
