A large fire tore through a mixed-use building in Elmhurst early Friday – leaving two firefighters with serious injuries.

The FDNY responded to a blaze just after 4 a.m. at a two-story building, located at 83-12 Broadway, fire officials said. The building consists of two commercial spaces on the ground floor and apartments on the second floor.

Heavy smoke could be seen billowing out from the front of the building, video posted online shows.

The FDNY sent out about 25 units and more than 100 firefighters to tackle the inferno, fire officials said. While battling the blaze, the second floor of the building collapsed and seriously injured one firefighter who was taken by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital Center, according to QNS.

The blaze was brought under control at around 5:40 a.m., the FDNY said.

One other firefighter was seriously injured fighting the fire. Two more firefighters suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said.

No civilians were reported hurt, FDNY officials said. It is unclear if anyone was inside the two-story building when the fire erupted.

The Fire Marshal will ultimately determine the cause of the fire and an investigation is ongoing, the FDNY said.
