A Queens man was convicted of second-degree murder Tuesday for a fatal stabbing that took place outside a baby’s christening party in Corona in 2019.

Antonio Martinez, 50, was convicted after a jury heard that he plunged a knife through a man’s chest outside a christening party in the vicinity of 98th Street and 37th Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 29, 2019.

The victim, 22-year-old Roque Alvarez-Montes, was killed during an argument he was having with Martinez.

Martinez, a resident of Corona, was convicted of murder as well as criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree before Queens Criminal Court Judge Cassandra Mullen.

“From celebrating a life, to mourning a death, this violent attack was as senseless as it was brutal. The defendant is being held to account and faces life in prison,” said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

Judge Mullen indicated that she would sentence Martinez to 25-years-to-life in prison when he reappears before the court on Dec. 6.
