Corona man arrested after following 10-year-old girl in Jackson Heights

A Corona man has been arrested after following a 10-year-old girl along 81st Street, asking her to come over to him and trying to hold her hand, according to police.

Jaminton Carela, 29, allegedly saw the girl walking across the street from him along 81st Street at 7:40 am yesterday and motioned for her to come over to him.

When the girl ignored him, Carela crossed the street and followed her along 81 Street and reached his hand out to her.

The girl ran from Carela and yelled for help.  A nearby school crossing guard responded and confronted him at 37 Avenue, causing him to flee the location.

Carela has been charged with an “Act in a Manner Injurious to a Child,” police said.

This is why we need More School Crossing Guards..it’s very imperative to the safety of our children to and from School.
It is essential that New York City hear our cries to Hire more School Crossing Guards.

Def agree not only do they provide safety from vehicular traffic but from scumbags like this. Crossing guards are a very under appreciated job. What if the crossing guard was not there this story could be a much different.
